Good to hear from you, GD. 😊 Those darn squirrels are really stinkers! In my yard they go for my chair cushions to use the stuffing for their nests. They also are diligent in trying to get the seeds I put out for my birds. They are my nemesis. 😡 But so far they haven’t gone after my plants, thankfully. And I am very thankful for the rain too, are you close to any of the fires? Take care my friend, Mary 🌱🌿🍃

@@RockyMountainGardens Yes I am very close to where the fires have been burning, I am about 5 miles away from there. I am on a major learning curve as a new gardener, the last time I posted I mentioned I had slugs in my new front garden and I still haven't beaten them so some of my plants there have not done well. I also transplanted some irises into that area and something has eaten the leaves so I am guessing I may have iris borers. I think I may just get the black thumb gardening award if I keep this up. lol

@@RockyMountainGardens O Mary I am coming next year for sure!!! How fun to be able to see your garden in real time and meet you!! Yes this heat has been crazy! I do a lot of veggie gardening along with my flowers and am working on starting some seeds for a fall/winter garden (using hoops for winter protection). I am starting the seeds inside under my grow lights so it is something I can do out of the heat. This is my first time trying it so it is definitely a risk. There is a channel who is zone 6 who has videos showing when/how to have a winter garden - of course I am 5 so it will be different but worth a try I figure!

Hello, GD, sorry to hear that you are struggling with your garden this summer. 😥 Wow, that is something about your slug infestation, in the 27 years I’ve lived here there was just one summer that I had some slugs-and that was mostly because I had a leak in my sprinklers. Wow, I am sorry to hear that about your HOA. We have covenants where I live, but no active HOA to enforce them. That situation has pros and cons, but I am free to design my garden how I like. I am thankful for that. I agree that your situation would put a cramp in my gardening. My best advice is to know more about the plants than the people on your HOA. Then you may have to educate them, and it might be a hassle. But you should be able to get approval. I’m sure waiting for a decision from them would be tough. Good luck, my friend, Mary 🌸💚🌹

@@RockyMountainGardens Hi Mary and thanks. I am actually on the HOA board now, and I'm going to try to push them to make the rules less restrictive because honestly, the best way to build a garden is how you have done it - incrementally over time - not as a single huge project done all at once. As for learning the plants, I was an experienced gardener in the Midwest before I moved here, but wow is Colorado different! Between the arid climate, hail, animals, hard pan clay soil, and other challenges, I have managed to get some things to grow but it has definitely been a struggle. I'm glad to know what you don't have to deal with it. Thanks for the advice and for sharing your beautiful garden with us.

Thank you for stopping by to see my garden, GD. 😊 I am sorry to hear about your Ninebark plant. Is it planted in a sunny spot? They can take partial sun as well but flower best in full sun. Is it possible you are overwatering? They like the soil on the drier side. Also I would check for aphids, they can be susceptible to them. Good luck with your new plant my friend, Mary 🍃🦋🌳
